Air New Zealand will be deploying the Acro 6 in its economy cabin – across 13 planes of A320neo/A321neo aircraft.
Air New Zealand and Acro have worked together on the new seat seats – which feature wider seats, in a slim-line design.
The window and aisle seats are 1cm wider than standard, but the big news here is the middle seat is the widest of the lot – coming in a 3cm wider to give the middle seat passenger more space.
The design also features a new seat cover developed in conjunction with New Zealand company Flight Interiors which customer testing has demonstrated delivers superior comfort levels for longer.
It seems there’s been a lot of thought of what’s gone into the design. According to Air New Zealand General Manager Customer Experience Anita Hawthorne
“The slightly wider middle seat helps balance out the fact that window and aisle seat customers enjoy a greater sense of space. We currently have many customers who state a preference for window or aisle seats and it’s possible the new design may see the middle seat get a boost in popularity.
We have a long history of innovating and of thinking outside the box for solutions so we were fortunate to work alongside a like-minded partner such as Acro. We believe what we’ve co-designed is not only practical from an operational perspective but importantly a more comfortable and spacious experience for our customers”
It’s a big win for Acro seating, with some major work ahead for the company as they prepare to start getting these seat-sets.
Hopefully, it will provide the company more work in the future as airlines sniff around for seats that can make a difference in the passenger experience field.

Those armrests look like what you’d find on Frontier and Spirit…that is, like the armrests you’d find in a football/baseball stadium. Which is to say, disgustingly cost-cutting and uncomfortable for everyone.

I would far rather have a slightly smaller armrest if it gave me a wider seat.
