The fledgling American Airlines 787 fleet continues to spread its wings, with another route to the Far East.
American Airlines will be switching over its Chicago O’Hare to Tokyo Nartia airport from a Boeing 777-200ER to a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner from the 18th August 2015 .
The route will operate five days a week, based on the following timetable:
AA153 DEPART ORD 13:05 ARRIVE NRT 1600+1 AA154 DEPART NRT 17:55 ARRIVE ORD 16:05 AA153 operates Tuesdays, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from ORD AA154 operates Mondays, Wednesdays, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from NRT Operates with a Boeing 777-200ER until 17th August 2015 Operates with a Boeing 787-8 from 18th August 2015 Data: Airlineroute
There is of course major changes in the seating as the plane is re-gauged from a Boeing 777-200ER to a Boeing 787-8 – namely, the removal of first class seating, an a cut in business class seats. On the positive side, it does introduce Main Cabin Extra seating for those who need extra space.
To compare:
First Business Main Cabin Extra Main Cabin Total Boeing 777-200ER 16 37 0 194 247 Boeing 787-8 0 28 57 141 226
From a passenger experience perspective, there are some neat features like power at seat (both AC electrical power and USB sockets) as well as an extended on-demand video library.
Whilst the tighter seating won’t be welcome in Main Cabin Extra or Main Cabin (with seat width down to 17″ or so), the Boeing 787 provides a nice way of crossing distances – and feeling a little fresher for it.
