The recently launched Recaro SL3710 Economy Seat has already picked up its first customer for the type – and it’s TAP Portugal
The partnership between Recaro and TAP Portugal one has been one of some years, with Recaro now the preferred seat supplier for TA Portugal new fleet of 25 Airbus A320/A321’s. The new aircraft will be configured with a mixture of BL3710 seats at the front of the plane (which I maintain is a very good economy seat), whilst using the SL3710 for the majority of the cabin.
The SL3710’s will take the place of the SL3510 seat that is currently flying on some TAP Portugal aircraft.
Going over the SL3710’s specifications again, it’s an 8kg seat, which is pre-reclined/fixed back. From an engineering perspective, TAP Portugal may be doing very well. as the SL3710 shared common parts with BL3710 – offering a lower cost of ownership. They also share a design language, that means when a passenger sees it in a cabin, they will no jarring differences between them.

Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of TAP Air Portugal
“Having worked with Recaro before, I know Recaro’s team is one of the best to work with. Throughout the whole tender process, we worked together successfully. Operating as one team paves the way for a great partnership and bright future for TAP Portugal. TAP is investing a lot in new technology aircraft and this partnership with Recaro is essential in the objective of improving even further the product offered to our customer.”
Head of Fleet Planning and Contracts at TAP Air Portugal, Nuno Leal, adds
“One of the many benefits working with Recaro is their ingenious design thinking goes beyond the inside and technicalities of the seat. They also deliver quality when it comes to the look and feel of their seats creating much needed synergy and consistency in a cabin, even when implementing multiple models.”
Dr. Mark Hiller, Chief Executive Officer Recaro Aircraft Seating states
“As returning clients are happy and satisfied clients, we are very pleased to have TAP place another order with Recaro”
“Not long ago, TAP and Recaro signed a contract for 6,200 economy and business class seats. The airliner now being the launch operator for the next generation of one of our best-selling economy seats, proves their continued trust in us.”
Qendrim Turkaj, Regional Sales Director at Recaro Aircraft Seating, adds
“Of course, every new tender is an opportunity to present both the company and its products in the best possible light. Having the advantage of already equipping the aircraft fleet of TAP Air Portugal, we were really keen on getting TAP onboard as a launching partner for our new SL3710.”
More solid choices for the short-haul market.
We all know the short-haul market can be a challenge when it comes to seating, with the aim of getting people from A to B at the lowest possible cost. Reducing costs in terms of fuel and maintenance is an important part of the mix, as well as attempting to deliver some passenger comfort on the way.
Recaro has demonstrated in the past it can meet those challenges, and TAP Is putting their trust in them again to deliver. Based on the deliveries so far in both TAP’s wide and narrow body fleets – it seems well placed.
