As I mentioned earlier, I didn’t my normal view of the city at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare – rather this time I would have a view of the Convention Centre, facing towards the runways at O’Hare.
This has a knock-on- effect. With me facing the city, I would get the arrivals traffic from 28C and 28R. However, with this view – I was stumped with a view over 28R only.
For me: This wasn’t the greatest view in the world – but it did give me a chance to get a bit of photography in – especially when the sun played some wonderful sunsets which you can get at O’Hare when the weather plays ball
So here’s an evening of wide-bodies and not wide-bodies landing at Chicago O’Hare.
I’m as usual using my usual beasts of burden for aeroplane photography – A Canon EOS R, combined with a 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L Series Lens and an RF to EF adaptor. If you’re new to my photography, you can check out my review of the Canon EOS R and the 100-400L series lens
One day I’ll swap this to a 70-200 f2.8 with a teleconverter (as I’ve noticed it is a fair bit sharper that the 100-400), but the combination I have is the best I can do for my budget – for now.
And to those who ask why I haven’t got any RF lenses yet… Speak to my bank manager. They’re still way overpriced at this time (be it having a red ring around it or otherwise).
So, what did I capture?
Starting off, an American Airlines Boeing 787 was landing.
Followed by an Alaska Airlines Airbus A320
An American Airlines Airbus A321, from the side…
And as it heads to land in the sunset…
Next, some cargo, featuring a FedEx McDonnell Douglas MD-11, again to the side…
and to the sunset
Next, something rather new to me: a TAP Air Portugal Airbus A330-900neo
And finally, something far too familiar to me – United Airlines Boeing 767-300ER
And one shot during a morning – a Korean Air Boeing 777-300ER
Overall: If you do want to spot, get a city view room at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare – your camera will thank you. But if you can make it work, facing the convention centre can help in getting some unusual shots – especially if the sun is playing ball.
