With British Airways planning to return to Bangkok this winter, the airline has bumped up its capacity and has expanded its codeshare with Bangkok Airways.
More Capacity to Bangkok.
British Airways will re-introduce its service to London Gatwick to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport on the 28th of October, with the airline planning to operate three flights a week. It seems the airline has extra capacity available, with the airline now offering five departures a week from Gatwick between January and March 2025.
Increased Codeshares with Bangkok Airways
The existing codeshare partnership with Bangkok Airways has been expanded to open up five new destinations across Thailand and Cambodia, allowing customers to connect seamlessly in Bangkok to:
- Phuket (HKT), Thailand
- Koh Samui (USM), Thailand
- Chaing Mai (CNX), Thailand
- Phnom Penh (PNH), Cambodia
- Siem Reap (SAI), Cambodia
This is an expansion to the current destination codeshared of Singapore and Koh Samui
For those who want a Bangkok stopover, you can build that into your journey before continuing to their final destination on the same ticket.
This agreement means British Airways customers travelling from or transiting through London will be able to connect to their final destination in Thailand or Cambodia on a single ticket.
Members of British Airways’ loyalty programme, the Executive Club, will also collect Avios and earn Tier Points when flying on Bangkok Airways on a British Airways codeshare journey and connecting flights. Flights booked independently will not qualify for Avios or Tier Points.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, said:
In October, we will be operating our first direct flight to Thailand in more than four years, so it’s a highly anticipated return to our global network. Knowing that this route will be particularly popular with our leisure customers, we’re pleased to be working with Bangkok Airways to offer more choice and make these sought-after holiday destinations more accessible.”
Mr. Chulin Kocharoen, Vice President of Network and Product Development of Bangkok Airways PLC commented:
“We are pleased to expand this codeshare partnership with British Airways to strengthen our respective route networks and offer business and leisure travellers with unprecedented and convenient access to new gateways. Moreover, British Airways passengers traveling on Bangkok Airways flights will enjoy the boutique airline’s unparalleled services such as lounge access at available airports, in-flight meal and much more.”
Bookings now open
Codeshare tickets are now available to book on BA.com for travel from 28 October 2024 onwards.
For those who want to explore beyond Bangkok, but are digging around for options, this could provide something rather enjoyable – especially if you build your trip onto a destination.
Whilst it is not a return to the heyday of daily services (with one going onward to Sydney), the increase in services from Gatwick to Bangkok will be welcome for the traffic that demands it
With British Airways retreating from some markets – it seems the airline is relying more on leisure traffic to Asia at this time. We’ll have to see if the airline decides to continue the service into the summer season.
