Greater Bay Airlines of Hong Kong is the latest operator to take its first delivery of a Boeing 737-9.
The first Boeing 737-9 aircraft of Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) was delivered and arrived in Hong Kong from Boeing’s delivery centre in Seattle last Saturday (22 November), with the aircraft entering service shortly thereafter.
Greater Bay Airlines is the first airline in the region to introduce Premium Class on this aircraft model. This includes passenger experience uplifts, including cradle-style seats, complimentary meals and beverages, individual power and USB outlets, priority baggage, check-in and boarding privileges, and enhanced baggage allowance.
Meanwhile, those in economy class will have USB outlets at their seats, whilst enjoying the 737-9’s features, including larger windows and pivot bins for luggage storage

Greater Bay Airlines Chairman Mr Wong Cho Bau said:
“GBA commenced service more than three years ago and our network continues to grow as we actively explore new destinations to meet market demand. At present, our scheduled and seasonal services cover more than 20 destinations across Asia and the Chinese Mainland. With this new aircraft model, we are also introducing the Premium Class to enhance passengers’ travel experience with a suite of prestigious and thoughtful services.”
“GBA is committed to offering a safe, reliable, and value-for-money service to those travelling to and from Hong Kong or transiting through the city. Leveraging Hong Kong’s distinctive advantages of ‘enjoying strong support of the Motherland and being closely connected to the world’, the airline persistently supports the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and further strengthens Hong Kong’s position as an international aviation hub,”
Stepping up to the MAX
Greater Bay Airlines is stepping up its game, with the airline operating seven Boeing 737-800 and now, one Boeing 737-9.
In addition, with the airline adding a premium class to the new Boeing 737-9, it’s stepping up its game and chasing those higher-yielding passengers, as it adjusts its operating model from a Low-Cost Carrier to a mixed operating model
Considering the airline targets routes in Asia and China, including flights from its base at Hong Kong to Bangkok, Taipei, Tokyo, Osaka, Sendai, Sapporo, Manila, Phu Quoc, Zhoushan, Huangshan, Yichang, Guilin, Zhangjiajie, Quanzhou, Xuzhou, Datong and Ensh, with 14 more 737-9s on the way, the airline will be seeking to recoup the costs as well as extend its reach.
