Time for another Snapshot, this time focusing on the passenger experience aboard Malaysia Airlines 627 on the short hop between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
I’m sure you know how I do this travel writing thing by now. But for those reading this for the first time, I have two major travel writing styles:
- Trip Reports—These are full, deep-dive reports that take you into the experience, the small things and the big things!
- Snapshots – These are bite-sized reviews that show you the product in some gentle headlines (and normally, only images shot on the phone)
We’re on Snapshots at the moment as I swim back uproute. Might have a few headlines too when I finally get to a proper editing station.
Booking
The flight was booked via British Airways as an Avios redemption flight (6000+£15), rather than paying a cash fare. Seats were auto-assigned, with a seat behind the exit row being selected by the system.
Check in
Check-in and a boarding pass were generated by the Malaysia Airlines app.
At the airport, paper boarding passes were issued along with my bag tagged to Singapore Changi.

Immigration and Customs.
Immigration was carried out, with both e-gates and normal stamping methods being offered. Note, the eGates require a working chip in your passport to function.

Lounge
With my flight due to depart from the satellite (C gates), I was able to use the MH Golden Lounge for a while.

Security and Gate
Security was carried out at the gate area, with boarding groups split here into two: elites and business, and everyone else.

The Aircraft
A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 737-800 would provide the lift between KL and Singapore.

The seats
Malaysia Airlines has chosen the slimline Safran 110i seats in economy classes. These come with adequate legroom in normal economy class.

And excellent legroom in the exit row.

I was moved to the exit row after boarding was completed to provide a body in an empty row

At all economy seats, both USB-A and USB-C power outlets were offered, with 15-watt fast-charge available over USB-C.C
IFE
Malaysia Airlines offers MHStudio to provide an integrated in-flight experience to the aircraft (with it pausing for announcements).

This in-flight experience was powered by Moment.
Catering
A complimentary round of water, salted peanuts and cookies were offered to all economy passengers, delivered and cleared quickly due to the 45-minute flight time.

Landing.
After arriving at Changi, the aircraft had a long taxi around to the F gates at Terminal 2.

With the landing authorisation completed using the MyICA app, once my passport was scanned (via an optical reader), I was allowed to enter the country.
Luggage issues
Whilst luggage was delivered quickly at Changi Airport, with bags on the belt around 15 minutes post-landing. The handlers or the system managed to deprive my bag of two sets of wheels.

SATS (who were handling for Malaysia Airlines) helped complete the paperwork, with an apology payment of S$25 on the spot to cover a replacement. This was accepted after completing the paperwork.
From there, I could leave the secure area and continue my delayed transit into Central Singapore.
