Thai Airways International received a Christmas present, with the airline taking delivery of its first Airbus A321neo.
This aircraft is the first of 31 Airbus A321neo aircraft, which the airline is expecting over the next few years as it strengthens its short-to-medium haul fleet and operations.
The first aircraft – HS-TOA – is named “Boworrangsee”. With Thai Airways taking the time to understand their aircraft, it has been planned to enter commercial service on 22nd January 2026, operating on the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to Singapore Changi Route.
It was received at a ceremony in Bangkok by Lavaron Saengsnit, Chairman of the Board, together with Charnsilp Trinuchagorn, Board Member, and the executive management team led by Chai Eamsiri, Chief Executive Officer, along with members of the airline.
The Airbus A321neo will feature the new Thai interior, which will have the Thompson Vantage seat in business class and the Recaro R3 in Economy Class. The aircraft will feature 16 business class seats and 159 economy class seats – for a total of 175 seats.
Modernising the fleet
With Thai Airways planning to take on new Boeing 787-9 aircraft as well as these Airbus A321neo aircraft, it is seeking to captitalise a premium product in Asia, when other airlines are happy to just provide a seat.
As the airline continues to explore operations with single-aisle aircraft (after converting its Thai Smile aircraft), these new configurations should offer a very premium product (especially in the front of the aircraft), with comfort in the back – perfect for mid-haul missions where there is money to be made.
