In a sign that British Airways is happily cutting where it doesn’t make a blind bit of sense and that it dislikes short-haul premium customers, the airline is planning to cut its Hot Breakfast service on certain routes.

British Airways Breakfast in Club Europe (London to Oslo)
As reported on FlyerTalk and… well, every other outlet it seems, the hot breakfast on Club Europe will be cut on the following routes:
- Amsterdam (Netherlands)
- Belfast-City (Northern Ireland)
- Brussels Airport (Belgium)
- Paris Charles De Gualle (France)
- Dublin (Ireland)
- Jersey (Jersey)
- Manchester
- Newcastle
The internal announcement states:
Breakfast on flights to AMS, BHD, BRU, CDG, DUB, JER, MAN & NCL will switch to a fresh fruit plate, yoghurt and a heated pastry, making it easier to deliver and giving you more time in the cabin with our customers. Other Domestic and European Band 1 flights will continue to receive a full hot breakfast.
As noted by Head for Points, this was initially trialled on the Scottish routes (London Heathrow – Glasgow/Edinburgh), which met with poor feedback. So poor that these two routes will continue to be offered hot breakfasts in-flight.
The value of a hot bite first thing
Club Europe is used by corporations who are paying for those who just book the first fare, those on connections, and a smattering of us who use it on points, as well as anyone who is paying the cash fare (least of all, since Tier Points are handed out by spend these days).
For those who arrive at the airport last minute, the value of that breakfast is amazing, as it’s a guaranteed hot bite of something tasty and recognisable, showing a little of the value that you paid for.
With the elimination of this cooked breakfast – granted, on some of the shortest routes British Airways flies, the airline again is looking after its wallet, rather than looking after its customers, giving a push-off passenger experience, for what are pricey fares.
For those flying on the short European and Domestic routes, we’ll have to see what exciting product they launch that will allow the crew to spend more time with the passengers. Although given how each plate is costed to the penny when coming up with menus, the term “don’t hold your breath” comes to mind.
But if the feedback in the BA forum, as well as other places, is anything to go by… this change is going down as well as expected by short-haul passengers.
Like a lead brick.
And remember, those feedback surveys that BA send out – send them in with your dissatisfaction. As well as quotes to fly with other airlines that operate on equivalent routes. Or use https://www.britishairways.com/travel/feedbackclaims/public/en_gb/select to show your ire.
