More to come
IndiGo has a firm order of 40 Airbus A321XLR aircraft in its backlog. The airline is expecting nine of that backlog to arrive this year, as they start to scale up longer-haul operations with the type.
With the airline starting off operations in Greece (with a codeshare with Aegean), operating six times a week, it should be the perfect experience to learn how a service operates on the longer haul, whilst in the confines of a single-aisle aircraft.
Beyond Greece, there are further planned deployments, with the airline planning initially to deploy the Airbus A321XLR on existing routes, such as Istanbul, Turkey and Denpasar, Bali.
Beyond that, further deliveries will allow the airline to expand to new long-haul routes in Europe and East Asia.
We’ll have to see where they end up. With a range of 4,700 nautical miles (8,700 km; 5,400 mi), there are lots of options for the airline on how it will choose to deploy the A321XLR.
