Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (24th January)

24/01/2026 by Kevincm Leave a Comment

We’ve almost done it, people – the dark nights of January are slipping away, as the month moves on apace. And as it does so, it’s time for your end-of-week roundup.

Yes, It’s Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond

The Great Western Arcade, Birmingham

Growing Old inStyle

As promised, four chapters from this travel odyssey this week. Look forward to another four next week as I continue to edit this monster in the background, breaking all the grammar and spell checkers on the way.

  • Into Malaysia and the Holiday Inn Express, KLCC
  • Exploring the Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur
  • Exploring more of Kuala Lumpur in the Dry, Wet and Nighttime
  • Back to KLIA Terminal 1 and the Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge

Routes and Networks

  • Air Canada to launch a winter link to Sapporo, Japan – A new link between Canada and Asia
  • Emirates adds further capacity to Manila – Four more flights a week
  • China Southern Airlines to return to Helsinki – starting with three times a week to a daily service.

Passenger Experiance

  • Edelweiss Air unveils its new Airbus A350 interiors – And they look nice too
  • KLM starts to offer free Wi-Fi on some European flights – Check your aircraft, as it will be powered by Viasat.
  • Heathrow Airport completes updated security scanners rollout – Only two years late. Still, better late than never.

New Aircraft News

  • Ethiopian Airlines firms up orders for nine Boeing 787-9 – With delivery timelines into the 2030s
  • Air Europa firms up its Airbus A350-900 order – Up to 40 aircraft on the way

Loyalty

  • Emirates Skywards loyalty programme partners with Jet2 for flight rewards – Nothing beats a Jet2.com redemption. And right now, you can redeem Emirates Skywards miles on flights

Multi-modal mobility

  • Lime bikes and e-scooters are on their way to Birmingham – Joy. Deep Joy.

Pretty Pictures

  • British Airways Boeing 777-200ER on final approach to Chicago O’Hare

Next Week

As most of the airfare sales end next week, I’ve got to get my skates on to book a few tickets – well, one in particular. I’ll also be continuing the trip report as the focus switches from Malaysia to Singapore.

On top of all that, I’ll bring you headlines that seem interesting as the week progresses.

Until next week, Happy Landings!
