Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (7th February)

07/02/2026 by Kevincm Leave a Comment

Its that time of the week again, where it’s more than a little wet, and I’m trying to be organised. And failing.

But it’s Saturday, so it’s time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

TRIP REPORT: Growing Old in Style

In the end, two segments made it out from this week’s publishing pool. It might be a bit slower next week, as I’ve still got to write some rather large segments (and your writer is doing this as best they can).

  • Glasses in a Rush (Or, New Spectacles Time)
  • The Singapore Pokémon Centre and Travelling Late through The Jewel and Changi

Singapore Air Show

  • Singapore Air Show – Airshow Digest – Not the biggest set of announcements, but business is business.

Routes and Networks

  • STARLUX Airlines plots its first European Route – and its Prague – STARLUX starts its European Adventure.
  • Emirates to launch a second daily Tokyo-Narita service – More capacity to Japan.
  • Virgin Atlantic pounces on Aer Lingus UK’s departure, scaling up capacity – with more seats on the way.

Seating

  • Lufthansa to retrofit its Airbus A380 aircraft with new business class seats – The VantageXL makes another appearance.

The Business of Aviation

  • Qantas to divest its holding of Jetstar Japan – Selling its minority stake in the airline.

Loyalty

  • Miles and More Status Match opens for British Airways, Iberia and ITA Airways status members – More time to defect.

Rail News

A heavy week of UK Rail news from us. Unusual, but I’m not hating it.

  • Great Western Railway rolls out its Battery-Powered train on passenger services – The BMU (Battery Multiple Unit) takes to the rails in commercial service.
  • West Midlands Trains returns to Public Ownership – London Northwestern Railways and West Midlands Railway return under Directly Operated Trains as part of the move to Great British Railways.
  • LNER unveils interiors for its new Class 897 Intercity Train sets – Welcome Serenza – New seats, new layouts and a silly name.

Pretty Pictures

  • American Airlines Boeing 787-8 on final approach to Chicago O’Hare
