Iberia is putting its hopes in US traffic, with the airline offering over 1.2 million seats this summer between Spain and the USA.
With the Northern Summer season coming along quickly (starting 29th March), Iberia is offering up to 166 flights a week (22 up from last year), making 1,280,254 seats available.
This growth is part of the development of the airline’s 2030 Flight Plan, which continues to drive the company’s expansion through the incorporation of a new fleet and the opening of strategic destinations.
In recent months, Iberia has taken delivery of six new Airbus A321XLR, which are being used to strengthen its North America and expand capacity in key markets, allowing for expansion and new routes.
Big in the USA
The big winner is the Big Apple, with the addition of a new daily flight to Newark Liberty Airport, which adds to the two existing frequencies to New York-JFK. With this, Iberia will offer three daily flights between Madrid and the New York metropolitan area. The new service to Newark is aimed at corporate customers, as it allows more direct and agile access to Manhattan’s financial district, reducing travel times on short-stay trips for business reasons.
And providing Iberia is serious – that is 352,055 seats between the two points – 43% more than last year.
Meanwhile, in the Summer, Orlando will join the Iberia Party. This will be the first summer this route has been served, with three flights a week between Madrid and Orlando.
Boston continues its two flights a day operation with the Airbus A321XLR. Meanwhile, Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago O’Hare and Washington Dulles will have a daily frequency.
Los Angeles will offer up to one daily flight during the June, July, and August peak period. Finally, San Francisco will have three weekly frequencies.
Meanwhile in Canada
Toronto will join the Iberia network during the summer. From 13 June, the airline will operate five weekly frequencies between Madrid and Toronto Pearson, with a total of 34,576 seats until the end of the season.
A Busy Summer
With the Airbus A330, Airbus A350 and A321XLR all pulling their equal weights, Iberia is planning for an intensive summer, serving passengers between Madrid and the USA with over 1.2 million seats.
And that is a lot of capacity, especially when distributed across its network (and not counting codeshares or Joint-Venture plans too – remember that Iberia is part of the AA/BA/AY Transatlantic Joint Venture agreement).
The challenge, as usual, will be to fill those seats in both directions, as well as ensure high-value passengers are filling those seats. After all, it is fine putting out all these seats, but having discount ticket holders in them will not pay the bills.
An interesting summer ahead – that is for sure.
