For those planning to travel to Malaysia, there’s good news, as Lufthansa is planning to launch a new route to Kuala Lumpur.

The new route will connect Frankfurt to Kuala Lumpur from the start of the Winter 26 timetable on 25th October 2026.

Planned operations are:

LH705 DEPART KUL 23:55 ARRIVE FRA 06:00+1

Commences 25th October from Frankfurt
Operate five days a week
LH704 Operates Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
LH704 Operates Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays
Booked Equipment: Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 "Allegris".

Lufthansa will operate its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft, configured with up to 287 seats, with Allegris installed, offering 28 Business Class, 28 Premium Economy Class and  231 Economy Class seats

That is, if they can get all the business class seats certified by then.

The route marks growth in Southeast Asia, connecting industry and tourism to Germany. It marks foruth destination in Southeast Asia, with Bangkok, Singapore and Phuket being served.

In Quotes

Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, said:

“With the new nonstop connection to Kuala Lumpur and the deployment of our state-of-the-art Dreamliner, we are creating ideal conditions to participate in the growth in Southeast Asia. The innovative Allegris cabin offers our guests the highest level of comfort and underscores our premium aspiration to offer both leisure and business travelers a first-class travel experience.”

Taking on the direct route

With Lufthansa taking on this direct service, passengers from the Lufthansa hub in Frankfurt will no longer need to connect en route (either via Turkey, Addis Ababa and so on), whilst tempting them not to backtrack to London or Paris to travel with Malaysia’s flag carrier – Malaysia Airlines.
Given the airline is planning to operate five flights a week, there appears to be confidence in this route and its success, especially with Malaysia attracting over 42.2 million visitors last year.

We’ll have to see how this route performs to see if this growth potential can be tapped appropriately.
