Leading turboprop lessor Abelo has confirmed that will take up three additional ATR 72-600 from options from the agreement signed at the Dubai Airshow in 2023, from ATR Aircraft.
This order further strengthens Abelo’s commitment to modern, efficient regional aviation as it expands its order book.
With these three additional options now exercised, Abelo has ordered 36 firm aircraft to date, and still holds nine options and purchase rights.
Deliveries of these three additional aircraft are scheduled for 2027.
Abelo has been successful with its orderbook, with a third of all firm commitments being either placed or delivered, with an increased global footprint with airlines such as SKY Express, Aegean (Greece), and SATENA (Colombia).
Earlier this year, Abelo also supplied Ethiopian Airlines with two brand-new ATR turboprops.

Steve Gorman, Chief Executive Officer of Abelo, commented:
“Our decision to confirm these additional ATR 72-600s reflects our confidence in the ATR asset and its relevance for regional operators worldwide. These aircraft will enable us to continue offering our airline partners the most efficient and environmentally responsible solutions, as we continue to hold very strategic slots over the next three years.”
Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, Chief Executive Officer of ATR, added:
“Abelo’s decision to further expand its ATR fleet reflects the strength of our partnership and our shared commitment to providing regional airlines with efficient, modern turboprops. As a lessor with deep engagement across diverse markets, Abelo offers airlines flexible pathways to operate new ATR aircraft. Their continued confidence supports our ambition to deliver responsible, affordable connectivity to communities worldwide.”
Extending the delivery pipeline
With Abelo supporting just under 60 aircraft in 24 lesses in 19 counties, the lessor has focused on turboprop aircraft as its primary offering to customers, with success in placing these aircraft with customers.
Like all lessors, delivery lead times are important (especially if there is a customer waiting to take delivery), so having those aircraft ready is important for both Abelo and its customers.
And also, it continues to expand the reach of the ATR fleet worldwide. Considering how little these Turboprops sip in fuel, their availability could be of interest to a lot of airlines who need to fly regional services.
