LATAM to launch its Airbus A321XLR with Thompson VantageSOLO

22/04/2026 by Kevincm Leave a Comment

Earlier last week, LATAM Airlines gave a preview of its upcoming Airbus A321XLR interior – focusing on the business class product.

This will feature the Thompson VantageSOLO seat, which will allow for a 1-1 layout in Business Class, with direct aisle access.

By using the Vantage Solo, it will offer lie-flat seats and privacy doors, as the airline pushes forward with its fleet modernisation plan.

The new Airbus A321XLR aircraft will start deliveries in 2027 and will have a capacity for more than 170 passengers, distributed across Premium Business and Economy cabins. The new Premium Business cabin will introduce a 1-1 configuration delivering 100% direct aisle access, elevating the standard of travel on this type of aircraft. The Economy Class Cabin will feature a 3-3 configuration with the Recaro R3 seat.

In addition, LATAM Airlines Group will introduce a renewed onboard experience featuring Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth and, for the first time in its single-aisle fleet, an in-flight entertainment system with individual screens.

The cabin concept was developed by LATAM in collaboration with PriestmanGoode, who advised on the design vision and material selection for both cabins, including working alongside Thompson Aero Seating on the customisation of the business class suite, lighting and interior finishes. The design concept seeks to reflect the spirit of South America, with a contemporary aesthetic inspired by the region’s landscapes, materials and contrasts.

Here’s the video from the demonstration:

LATAM already has a commitment for more than 10 A321XLR aircraft, with the first deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027.

Paulo Miranda, Chief Customer Officer at LATAM Airlines Group, said:

“The Airbus A321XLR allows us to take our value proposition to the next level and elevate the travel experience for our passengers. We are introducing a Premium Business cabin on single-aisle aircraft, with long-haul standards of comfort, connectivity and privacy, and a design inspired by South America. This allows us to offer more travel options, strengthen our network, and deliver a more consistent experience for our passengers,”

Expanding Premium Comfort Options

With LATAM getting ready for the A321XLR, timings are going to be critical – not only for delivery of seating, but also for the installation and rollout from the Airbus factory as it ships out more aircraft.

With the VantageSOLO at the front and the Recaro R3 in the back of the aircraft, there are some reasonably high-quality comfort options the airline is offering on an aircraft that will be flying those longer missions (the “thin and long” flights), where efficiency is needed to control costs, but passenger comfort is still at the core of the offering.

We’ll see how they turn out when the aircraft are delivered in 2027.
