Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (25th April)

25/04/2026 by Kevincm Leave a Comment

It’s the end of another week as we head towards the end of April. And with my brain still full of seats, IFE and components, it must be time for Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

TRIP REPORT: Still for the Friends

I’m starting this trip report a little slower than usual, mainly as I’m editing a lot of things at once, thus it’s taking a little time to get this out. That and I’ve been asleep way too early in the evenings. More next week.

  • Off to Chicago with American Airlines and British Airways
  • Off to Liverpool and HM Passport Office

Willkommen im Frankfurter Terminal 3

Frankfurt Terminal 3 has opened to traffic, with a lot of airlines shifting around the terminals. Two articles from the opening.

  • Frankfurt Airport Terminal 3 Opens to Passenger Traffic
  • SkyTeam opens its new lounge at Frankfurt Terminal 3

Retrofits and rollouts

  • Air India unveils its retrofitted Boeing 787-8 – with 25 more to go.
  • Lufthansa launches its first retrofitted Airbus A380 with VantageXL seating – eight to process.

New Aircraft News

  • Ethiopian Airlines taps Boeing for further 787-9 Dreamliners – exercising options for growth.
  • Seating
  • Japan Airlines shows off the Recaro R2 Seat for its Boeing 737-8 aircraft – Some nifty seat covers going on the Recaro R2.
  • LATAM to launch its Airbus A321XLR with Thompson VantageSOLO – The VantageSOLO at the front, Recaro R3 in the back.

IFE+C

  • Vueling boosts Passenger satisfaction with help from Viasat – There’s a lot of life in the European Aviation Network still. Though a little product repositioning might not be a bad idea.
  • Jetstar selects Viasat AMARA for in-flight connectivity – Upcoming for their Boeing 787 fleet.

Brother, can you spare some Jet1A?

  • Lufthansa Group pulls over short-haul 20,000 flights, with 120 daily flights cancelled – And further efficiencies on the .way

Pretty Pictures

  • Virgin Atlantic Airbus A350-1000 loading at London Heathrow Airport

Next Week

As we start to cross from April to May, with warning temperatures and dwindling Jet1A stocks, we’re going to see a lot more cancellations ahead, as airlines seek to reduce costs. We’ll be keeping a close eye on network shifts.

We’ll also be bringing you more from the most recent trip report (providing your author can get all the images home, and make the narrative work well), as well as some thoughts from things seen at AIX.

On top of that, we’ll have our usual mixture of news, views and anything else that piques my interest.

So until next week, Happy Landings!
