It’s Sunday again, so it must be time for some more Airplane Art.
This week, we have a Spirit Airbus A320 climbing out of Chicago O’Hare International in late March, as it headed off to its next destination.
As we are all aware, Spirit Airlines began an orderly wind-down of its operations, ceasing operations on Saturday, 03:00 EST on the 2nd May.
At the time of its shutdown had 62 Airbus A320, 29 Airbus A321, 19 Airbus A320neo and 21 Airbus A321neo in its fleet, which operated out of its bases at Atlanta, Chicago–O’Hare
Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Houston–Intercontinental, Las Vegas, Miami, Newark and Orlando.
The aircraft in the photo is N608NK. Its last flight was between Myrtle Beach and Atlantic City, where it was parked after landing early. It also operated out of Orlando and Newark to Boston, Louisville, Charlotte, Pensacola and Baltimore.
With the fleet now parked and services ceased, there will no doubt be moves to ferry the fleet to other locations as lessors, banks and others seek to recover assets as the airline tries to wind down its business in an orderly manner.
We can only hope that those who worked for the airline, having worked either on the front line interacting with passengers or in the backline servicing aircraft and who tried to keep the business afloat, find new roles and rewarding jobs in the very near future.
More Airplane Art next week!
