If you’re a BMI Credit Card Amex branded card holder, I’d check now to see what MBNA are up to. In some cases they are changing the points earning, and in other cases, they are offering a second linked VISA card.
And no, I don’t know what MBNA’s game is either.
According to Business Traveller, the new Visa card will be sent to you in November, allowing cardholders the choice paying by American Express or Visa.
However, point earning has changed it seems too:
- 1.5 miles for every £1 on American Express card
- 1.5 miles for every £2 spent on the Visa card
You’ll get one bill for your cards, applied at you standard credit card rate you were accepted at. If you don’t want to move to the two-card product, you need to phone MBNA before 25th October on 0800 028 3987 (Freephone from a land line) or 01244 672111 (if you’re using your mobile and don’t want to be conned).
BMI Mastercards are currently unaffected, but as MBNA is going through “a period of transition”, you can bet they’re up to something. Of course, the BMI homepage hasn’t been updated… and for that matter nor has the MBNA pages.
There’s an active discussion on Flyertalk, but I strongly advise you head to the few pages of the discussion for recent events.
[…] A bit but here, but MBNA have been.. fiddling with card issuing, and in some cases are issuing an accompanying Visa Card to go with the BMI Amex Card which earns 1.5 points per £2. See http://economyclassandbeyond.boardingarea.com/2011/10/11/bmi-amex-credit-card-holder-check-now-product-has… […]
