According to Der Spiegel (English translation), Lufthansa has released the prices for reserving seats in Economy.
Be prepared to open your wallets, as if you want pre-assigned seating, you’re going to have to pay – with the following prices:
Short Haul
- Pre-assigned seat: €10
- Exit Row: €20
Long Haul
- Pre-assigned seat: €20
- Exit Row: €60
The charges do not apply on mid-price and flexible booking classes in Economy, nor do they apply for HON Circle Members and Senators.
The new charges go into effect from 26th November according to the article as Lufthansa joins other West European airlines in telling consumers “if you want a seat, pay for it” strategy.
As usual at T-23 Hours before departure, all un-taken seats are up for grabs.
In addition, Der Spiegel also reports that Domestic German Tickets with a lead-in price of €59 will be a thing of a past with them going up to €90, and the €99 European Return tickets will be harder to find, with a 2 night stay required to.
Lufthansa once promoted themselves as “There’s No Better way to fly”. They changed it to “Nonstop you”
A good thing – because there could well be better ways to fly if they’re going to play the low-cost game…
