It seems we’re in full devaluation season as Hilton is to stop offering Points & Fixed Miles in their HHonors Programme – on stays on or after January 6, 2014 – according to a release at http://hhonors3.hilton.com/en/promotions/update-to-hhonors-earning-style-options-faq.html.
The only earning options will be:
- Points & Points (HHonors Base Points + HHonors Bonus Points)
- Points & Miles (HHonors Base Points + Variable Airline/Rail Miles)
Sadly, this applies for all stays with a check in date of January 6, 2014, members with Points & Miles will automatically earn variable miles, or 10 HHonors Base Points plus 1 mile per eligible US dollar spent for most stays.
Points and fixed miles were great for one-night stops – and for topping up programmes. Variable miles mean that it will cost Hilton less… and you earn less miles in your frequent flyer account.
The only way it could be good is if you have long stays at a Hilton brand hotel which could boost your mileage earning potential.
Still – not a great thing at all.

Agreed; not good at all. As you said, it was great for 1-night stays. Hardly took advantage of this option until recently, after the recent HHonors points devaluation. It was solid.
