Biman’s DC10 to continue flying into February

31/12/2013 by Kevincm

Like the old man who is trying to escape in Monty Python in the “Bring out your dead” scene, Biman Bangladesh are extending the operation of their last McDonald Douglas DC-10 into the middle of February 2014.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FvX_Suj11s

It will continue on the Dhaka to Kuwait route operating as follows:

BG043 DEPART DAC 20:55 ARRIVE KWI 00:05+1 Operates Monday Wednesday Sunday
BG044 DEPART KWI 01:45 ARRIVE DAC 09:30+1 Operates Tuesday and Thursday
BG044 DEPART KWI 01:45 VIA CGP 09:30+1 DEPART CGP 10:30 ARRIVE DAC 11:10
                                          Operates Monday

Operate on days specified from 1st February 2014 to 13th February.

Of course, operations may change (this change itself being an extension of the previous operations to Kuwait), so plan accordingly if you still want to chase the final scheduled operated DC-10 around in the air.

A lot of when this DC-10 will be retired will be down to when Biman Bangladesh get their next Boeing 777 delivered. Only then will the final flight be announced as the DC-10 goes off to retirement in a museum in the USA…

… via Birmingham in the UK if the plan is pulled off.

      It’s not dead… In fact it’s feeling a lot better… 😉

A decade or so ago, I rather nervously flew with Biman Bangladesh, from Bangkok to Mumbai via Dhaka. When we arrived in Mumbai my friend’s luggage was missing, and we were sent to liaise with the managing director of Biman in India.

I began by complimenting him on how, despite my reservations, I had found the flight very pleasant. “Oh no” he replied “our planes are old and dangerous”.
