Delta is continuing to expand the use of Boeing 717s (the last generation of an aircraft which history goes back the the Douglas DC-9) with the introduction of 717 operated services for periods.
This includes:
– Atlanta to Augusta, operating one 717 flight daily from 1st April 2014 until 18 August 2014
– Atlanta to Chicago Midway Airport, operating 13 717 operated flights a week from 1st April 2014
– Atlanta to Fayetteville, operating one 717 flight daily from 1st April 2014 until 4th June 2014
– Atlanta to Houston Intercontinental, operating one 717 flight daily from 1st April 2014 until 4th June 2014
– Atlanta – Dallas Love Field operating 6 flights daily form 13th October 2014.
The 717s are coming from AirTran, as Delta leases the aircraft from Southwest Airlines (AirTran’s owner). A total of 88 Boeing 717s will be joining the Delta fleet over the next few years.
The cabin is configured with:
– 12 First Class Seats in a 2-2 formation with 37″ pitch
– 15 Economy Comfort in a 2-3 layout with 34″ pitch
– 83 Economy Seats in a 2-3 layout with 31″ pitch
With a range of about 1,500 miles, this is more than a regional jet, but less than some of the bigger Airbuses & Boeing’s – ideal for the mid-length, high frequency sector.
