I actually like doing these little catch up pieces before the main trip report after doing it on the San Francisco one. I think I’ll make a habit of it….
So, some brief thoughts on AA87 (London Heathrow to Chicago O’Hare) yesterday
- First up, ground services were a lot more polished than before. Those extra few hours late seemed like everyone was awake… for once.
- The BA Lounge had bubbles. But you all knew about that.
- Main Cabin Extra is nice in terms of legroom compared to main cabin aboard those AA 767-300ERs. It’s not that bad compared to the main economy cabin…
- Although – and this is nasty – the plane smelt of urine or something of that nature between ground and 5000ft, and 4000ft and ground. Not sure what was up with the plane there.
- IFE on these birds… well.. Yes. We all know it’s overhead screens (resulting in a very boring black plane post during dinner). How did I solve this? In the only way I know how…
Welcome to the world of Pokemon GhettoIFE!
- Food… I thought the breakfasts served aboard AA were was forgettable. The main meal… was equally forgettable:
- Seriously, these planes do need a refurbishment. In some cases, it felt I was flying that Biman Bangladesh DC-10 in some quarters.
- And the approach into Chicago was one of the oddest I’ve encountered…

Still, it got me across the pond – and also to a very short immigration queue. These are good things in my book.
More “Thoughts” about hotels and such later…

I was on a 767-300 on sunday-monday lim-mia and it too smelled of urine may be an issue with these old planes. On another note i was flying biz class, over all the flight attendants were subpar and felt like they didn’t care at all even rude at times. I’ve had much much better service on a AE flight to dtw.

I’m not sure why you think your arrival to ORD was odd. It looks like you arrived via the planned WYNDE FIVE arrival to 10R or 10C.
