Drobrolet – an Aeroflot subsidiarity aiming to compete in the low cost carrier space – seems to have hit a major snag in its operations, with the airline having to suspend its services.

The blacklisting was made official by the EU on 30th July 2014 as part of sanctions package against Russia.
Drobrolet have decided to suspend services from 00:00 Moscow time on the 4th August, with routes transferred to Simferopol and Volgograd operated by Orenburg Airlines.
Other routes on the Drobrolet network have cancelled.

The airline has been operating a fleet of two Boeing 737-800 aircraft, operating domestic services within Russia, as well as to Simferopol in The Crimea, which only recently commenced operations on the 11th June 2014 as part of Aeroflot’s efforts to establish a low cost carrier operation.
However for now, those plans are on ice it seems as the EU and Russia trade blows over trade and security.
