Sometimes when travelling, it’s important to know your options, as well as being able to adjust plans as needed.
Written from the T5 arrivals lounge
So – about adjusting plans.
When I got to O’Hare yesterday, I had two options – take the direct flight to Manchester or go on the Heathrow flight.
Now, Birmingham (where I live in the UK), is for all intents and purposes equidistant between these locations (90 miles to Manchester, 100 or so to London).
As you can guess, it didn’t matter to me. What did matter to me was that I needed some time decompress and sort myself out. The other things that didn’t matter was that no matter which way I went, I would be facing a lot more money going down the pan to get home (as I was well outside my arrival times).
Thankfully, both Manchester and Birmingham are well connected, however – I wanted to take the train home (mainly to doze in peace).
Checking the train web sites, I found a bargin train ticket from London Euston to Birmingham (which is normally a £31 single fare for £11 all in.
What can we learn from this:
- Keep an open mind of your landing point
- Know the different routes back home from where you land
- Consider the issues if you have a car waiting at the other end
- Consider extra costs if its an issues
Flexibility is one of the most important things when travelling – it certainly makes life easier when things go wrong.
