With my time in Vegas coming to an end, it was time to head out of this city in the middle of the desert. Alas, I made the mistake of catching a taxi, leaving me open to the Las Vegas rip-off industry… I mean Taxi Cartel.. I mean Taxi Cabs.
Only in Vegas.
Hmm. Do I want to come back soon?
After going round the long way, the taxi finally made it to McCarran Airport, where I headed to check in where there was a short wait to be served.
After a passport check, and the boarding passes spat out, I had a look at the them… and noticed something odd on the transatlantic sector with a seat switch from 18A to 22A. I was assured this was a Main Cabin Extra seat across the pond. You can imagine I thought differently, but I dismissed it out of mind for now… as I had the joy of airport security.
Las Vegas Airport security… wasn’t that bad, but still another TSA funfest. However, it wasn’t that busy and I was soon through it, with my freedom grope done and dusted.
That done, it was time to head over to the train to the D gates – with a nice surprise on the way.
Ok – this is a tough one. But look at the 737 with the odd winglet – that’s a Split-Wing Scimitar Winglet. Well it was interesting to me.
The shuttle transit did its thing, and dropped me off at the D Gates where it was time to roll the dice one last time with the madness of Las Vegas airport.
Up and away!
Walking around the terminal. the Las Vegas tourist board were in a mood to remind people of a core thing about Las Vegas
Thankfully, there is a place of sanctuary in this malstrom of an airport – and that’s the American Express Centurion Lounge
It’s a bit organic in there
I was welcomed to the lounge – and whilst I had no American Express credentials, I was on the guest list, so I was ushered in.
The lounge itself has a very modern/contemporary twist to it – unlike most North American lounges I normally wind up in.
Saying that, the lounge was a bit busy – showing its popularity with people who wanted to enjoy a break from the madness of Vegas. I found a place to relax, taking full advantage of the hot food, as well as cold drinks
My spot in the lounge
Hot items
Salads and cold items
`
Desert items
And of course, The Bar.
All in all, the food was of a good quality and plentiful, with the service more of a restaurant style as opposed to a lounge style, with staff cleaning up regularly.
It’s a nice environment to relax and work in, with me spending some time, even when keeping an eye on the departures
However, with the clock counting down, my time in this lounge was running out. I packed my stuff up, and said my farewells …. and off to the gate .
Overall: Good lounges in the USA are hard to find – and the really good ones are either first class lounges or they’re in Canada. This is a rare example of a high quality lounge, that if you’re an American Express Platinum or above holder – should be on your stopping list.
With a short walk to the gate, boarding was well underway.
I queued up, and grabbed a picture of the chariot that would take me to Dallas Fort Worth, and the first of four flights back home. A long 20 hours or so ahead…
