The first routes have finally been announced, with US Domestic and international operations plans, centred around Dallas Fort Worth Airport as the base for the American Airlines 787:
US Domestic operations:
- 7th May 2015 – Dallas Fort Worth to Chicago O’Hare
International Operations:
- 2nd June 2015 – Dallas Forth Worth to Beijing Capital Airport
- 4th June 2015 – Dallas Forth Worth to Ezeiza International Airport/Ministro Pistarini International Airport for Buenos Aires
American Airlines will bring more 787s online as they get them and add/convert routes as needed.
The airline will intends to fit the planes in a two class configuration with
- 28 Business Class Seats in a 1-2-1 configuration
- 48 Main Cabin Extra seats in a 3-3-3 configuration
- 150 Main Cabin seats in a 3-3-3 configuration.
Of course, with 3-3-3 down the back of a 787 is going to be tight with an average of 17″ seat width, as you can see from these pictures:

Each seat has electrical power and USB sockets – along with satalitle WiFi for those who want to be connected inflight.
For those of you who want to book seats on these services, you’ll have to wait until Valentines Day (14th February 2015) to get a ticket on these services.
Almost as if American Airlines say “They love you” with a 787.
