Brr Chicago! BA458 London Heathrow to Madrid Barajas

I was welcomed aboard, and begun the long hike to the middle of the plane for EuroTraveller. And it was long – mainly as Club Europe was taking up a good proportion of the plane today (with minimal free seats anywhere else).
The plane filled up pretty quickly as the second bus came to deposit its passengers.
The B/E Aerospace Pinnacle seat for British Airways. I’m still not a fan.
The seat I had chosen has practically infinite legroom – this being an exit row seat. The downside of this was the lack of a reachable window.
In this case, I was happy to have the legroom – even if the seat does feel like a metal bench when sitting on it.
Without much fuss, we were pushing back on schedule and beginning our taxi. During this time – the safety demonstration was carried out and the cabin was secured for flight.
After a short delay in the morning rush to get out of Heathrow, our Airbus A321 spooled up its engines for take off.
With our plane in the air, we passed Windsor, and begun our track towards Madrid.
Is one amused at the overhead view?
The A321’s cabin during cruise. I do wish airlines would stop use mood lighting to create bad 1990’s discos in the air.
As the flight continued into the cruise phase, breakfast was served. To those USA based airlines, yes – it’s entirely possible to serve breakfast to a full plane of passenger with drinks in a sub-800 mile flight, and include it in your airfare.
Breakfast today was a filled croissant – pretty normally for a short-haul European flight. The additional coffee and cola was welcome – along with the orange juice.
It wasn’t bad at all – the croissant wasn’t overly soggy and the bacon was crispy. Soft cheese and me don’t go together well, so I left that part of the croissant behind.
Meanwhile, the plane continued its journey towards Madrid, with me drifting in and out of sleep.
Eventually, our plane begun its decent for Madrid, with the cabin tided up and secured. The flight attendant opposite me was in a chatty mood, so I engaged in the chatting as the plane descended through the low hanging clouds.
Closing in on Madrid.
Soon the undercarriage was deployed as the final three minutes of the flight occurred as our plane lined up for a reasonably smartish landing at Madrid Barajas airport.
With a short taxi to the gate, our A321 made it to the stand without too much delay – which would be good for me as I now had just under an hour on the clock to make my transit to the waiting Iberia flight.
This would be fun.
With the plane coming to the stand, the bongs went off, and it was every passenger for themselves as they bundled out of the plane – myself included.
I thanked the crew, and headed off for a transit adventure…
Overall: Not a bad morning flight. An attentive and talkative crew were great, whilst allowing me to get rest too. Always a good thing.
