It seems Eurowings (a low cost carrier of the Lufthansa group), is trying to make a splash on its upcoming Colonge to Dubai route, offering an introductory fare of €99.99each way – or €199. return.
The route operates from Cologne-Bonn Airport to Dubai.
Through pricing is available from London Heahtrow, London Stansted or Manchester. In this case, you might want to select Stansted:
The route kicks off in December, operating Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on the 17th December:
As usual, there’s the buy-up options available too, checking into the dates:
Eurowings will be operating flights with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, and seating so far appears to be pretty standard, with a 2-3-3 in the “Best” seating on the plane, and 2-4-2 in the standard seating.
It’s a low cost challenge that has arrised. The €99 promotional fares are an intresting entry point – and providing your willing to travel light and leave a lot to higher beings in terms of where you sit, it’s good value.
Even at the €149 fare level, the price is good considering what you get bundled in.
These prices however, are lead in prices – and I could see them settling around €149 for a basic fare each way.
Dubai is well served – both by Emirates as well as most European carriers (for example, Swiss is offering a fare of £298 return fare from Heathrow at the moment), so whilst the capacity of an extra A330-200 isn’t much, it’s a start.
Lets see if Eurowings can work in a long haul model.
