It that time again for a new delivery for British Airways – who took delivery of their first Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Here it is as Boeing build it under four minutes or so:
G-ZBKA arrived at Heathrow in preparation for it to enter service – the first of 22 Boeing 787-9s to enter service with the airline.
British Airways currently operate 8 787-8s, and have 12 787-10s on order.
This aircraft will join the 787-8s that are operating in the British Airways fleet (if you’re interested I’ve posted two reviews on the BA 787-8 in World Traveller Plus – one here in Tiers and Dreams, and another here in Cold Chicago, Warm Planes)
British Airways will operate the 787-9s in a four class configuration – yes – four class – making the airline a rarity in operating a first class cabin aboard a 787 Dreamliner.
Seating configuration calls for:
- 8 FIRST seats (Updated first class product) in a 1-2-1 configuration
- 42 Club World (Business Class) Seats in a 2-3-2 configuration
- 39 World Traveller (Premium Economy) Seats in a 2-3-2 configuration
- 127 World Traveller (Economy) Seats in a 3-3-3 configuration
British Airways are planning to fly the 787-9 initially to Dehili (25th October 2015), Abu Dhabi and Muscat (5th November 2015), as well as Kuala Lumpur, Austin and San Jose.
Whilst British Airways will be happy these new planes are joining the fleet – they aren’t the first operator in the UK to operate the 787-9 – that honour belongs to Virgin Atlantic who are using the 787-9 for their fleet renewal programme.
As more planes arrive, expect more route changes to be made to accommodate the 787-9 fleet.

Nice video! Thanks for sharing!
Even if the 787-9 is not planned to come to Montreal, we’re lucky enough to have British Airways’ 787-8 here!
