GoGo’s 2KU today became live aboard AeroMexico’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
This represents the first time GoGo’s 2KU has taken flight commercially, and will be operating aboard five of AeroMexico’s Boeing 737-800s.
AeroMexico were one of the first airlines to sign for Gogo 2KU – and thus the first to deploy it.
To start with, GoGo 2KU will be offered free of charge – before charging for the product. Pricing will be at the discretion of the airline (like how Gogo offers its product in other markets).
Gogo’s president and CEO Michael Small states:
“This is a groundbreaking milestone for Gogo as it signifies that the 2Ku era has officially taken flight,”
“Aeromexico was the first to commit to the service and we couldn’t be more excited to have their passengers be the first to experience this game changing technology.”
The 2KU solution allows for two antennas to be used – one for downloading data, one for uploading data, with promises of up to 70mbs download speeds.
(Editors note: Well if Gogo would allow me aboard Jimmy Ray to have a play and do some tests… I would)…
The antenna looks a bit like this:

Up until now, 2KU has been live aboard GoGo’s Test Aircraft “Jimmy Ray”

GoGo will also be installing 2KU aboard planes operated Delta, Virgin Atlantic and Air Canada (and hopefully more airlines as time goes on).
For passengers who demand more bandwidth in the air – be it from cat videos, streaming content or even faster loading web pages and emails – it will be a welcome relief to have some extra bandwidth in the air.
