Welcome back gentle reader! It’s good to have you back to the trip reports, and welcome to something new – Flight-Fight!
You’ll find out what Flight-Fight is all about in the coming paragraphs as I do my writing.
If you’re just interested in the flights, head to the snapshots where you can find the short stories. For the long stories… stay tuned.
My usual rules to writing apply at http://economyclassandbeyond.boardingarea.com/2012/03/18/blog-admin-a-message-to-the-grammar-checkers-out-there/.
Time for a rare head-to-head as I pit incumbent Aer Lingus against that plucky upstart Ryanair in a straight head to head fight to the bitter… hold it.
How different from each other are they these days… or actually… how similar are they when it comes to non-elite point to point travel?
Or are all airlines heading down the path of low-costness?
Let’s have a Flight-Fight! Not to the death, but over two segments to see how two airlines perform.
I’ve chosen two segments of equal length, distance and timing – mainly the god olde Birmingham to Dublin route. Distance of 200 miles from A to B.

It’s a short enough to see what services an airline has on an end to end basis, without my backside hurting too much, allowing me to enjoy Passenger Experience from start to finish.
And my wallet. Let’s not forget what remains of my wallet. I want a cheap(ish) day out after all.
Other reasons I needed to go to Ireland? I wanted to meet a friend, and I needed a new Guinness Mug after someone in the office made of with my old one.
So… let’s get the boxing gloves on as we go for Flight-Fight!
Next up: Seconds out – Round 1: Booking and check in.
