One of the better promotions earlier this year – and totally out of the box – was IcelandAir’s “Stopover Buddies”.
Well good new – it’s back!
Welcome back stopover buddies!
For those who missed out on Stopover Buddies last time (and how could you?), the concept was a great one – you requested a buddy when you had a stopover with IcelandAir, and an IcelandAir employee would host you for a day in different activities.
Well – they’re back for winter 2016/17 season!
IcelandAir are promising to make your stopover a little more interesting – other than staring at seats at the airport.
The airline says
Our Stopover Buddies not only know the lay of the land but they also know other interesting locals. That means they are just the right people to help you turn your Icelandair Stopover into a fun and memorable celebration. This winter, pop open the champagne, put on your party hat and request an Icelandair employee to help you celebrate the way Icelanders do. From birthdays, to proposals, our Buddies have it covered. Alternatively, join in on local, Icelandic celebrations and allow our Buddies to show you how to make a good trip even better – Icelandair style.
That’s a rather wide selection to say the least.
You can request a stopover buddy at http://www.icelandair.co.uk/stopover-buddy/request/ (US: http://www.icelandair.us/stopover-buddy/request/ )
The season this year runs from 11th October 2016 and until 31st March 2017 – so there’s lots of time to meet new buddies!
- Fly Icelandair
- Have a Stopover in Iceland booked
The service itself is free of charge, with limited availability each day. Note that activity and food expenses are not included and the whole thing is subject to terms and conditions .
I said it last time, and I’ll say it again – this is a wonderful way of showing Iceland to people who are stopping over as they go between Europe and the US, driving tourism and money into the country.
In terms of the passenger experience – this is powerful. – make no mistake. It’s Icelandair’s method of being different and not like many of the traditional airlines.
And credit to Icelandair for doing this again – I’m sure it will be a huge hit.
