Getting off the plane at Washington National – I’ll be honest – I wasn’t exactly awake. I was pretty hungry too. But before I did anything else – I needed to get to the hotel to try to get my bearings and where I was in the world.
This place is awful quiet
This way out.
Thankfully, I followed the signs to the exit, and was soon in the public area, marvelling how such a nice airport terminal ended up in a country like the USA.
Outside, I had a five-minute wait before the hotel shuttle appeared. There was a bit of confusion if I had the right shuttle bus – thankfully, it was resolved and I was in a shuttle bus for the short ride over to my crashpad for the night – the Holiday Inn Washington Reagan National.
Holiday Inn Washington Reagan National
Taken during the day (rare for me, I know).
Check-in area
Check-in and shop.
Reception
The “National Market”. Slightly Overpriced.
I was welcomed and my reservation was retrieved. A credit card swipe was taken along with a room on a high floor. This would be nice.
I headed to the lift, and after working out how to use the lift – I was on my way to the 10th floor.
Not the best thing to be presented with when you’re nowhere near awake.
So lets look at the room – and it a typical Holiday Inn room. That’s no bad thing at all, as my brain couldn’t process much more than that at that juncture.
The bed
TV and workstation – Ignore the person in the mirror. He was exhausted at this point of the proceedings. His lack of spelling and grammar skills are legendary, as is the ability to harm the feelings who deem themselves to be offended when he dares to make a grammatical error or many.
The bathroom – again, a typical Holiday Inn bathroom, with the usual Holiday Inn smellies.
You’ll love smelling of coconut.
In-room Wifi was reasonable – nothing to write home about, but nothing bad.
I’ve seen worse.
The bed was reasonably comfortable, and the hotel warm.
Meanwhile, I was hungry. Thankfully there’s a McDonalds next door to the hotel. Whilst McDonalds isn’t the healthiest thing on the planet or the highest in US dining cuisine – it would do at this point of the day where my brain wasn’t exactly functioning (and being nearly 24 hours on the road at that point… I’m sure you can let me off).
With warm food in me, and my brain slowly not wanting to function, I fell asleep trying to find Cartoon Network on the TV.
I’m honestly not sure what I was watching… although I wish there was plugs closer to the bed…
In the morning I woke up late – my plans for the day in tatters. But in some ways, that was a good thing. Considering I needed to be paying attention the next few days, I was more focused on getting coffee in my system, writing snotty posts… and looking out at the world.
With 11am approaching, it was time for me to pack up shop and head on out.
Checkout was handled efficiently, and I was on my way to my next hotel: the Marriott Marquis.
Overall: Considering I had this for a cheap night and nothing special, this hotel was ideal. Anything more than this would have been wasted on me the inbound journey. Sometimes the simplest hotels are the best when you need a crashpad.
Next: The Marriott Marquis.
