Lets Tallinn that again! Tallinn Airport and Lounge

Tallinn 2 "Lets tallinn that again"

In this 200 Tier Point Adventure:

  • 155 Tier points to go (because my mathematical skills are as bad as my grammatical skills)
  • To the Heathrow area
  • The Holiday Inn Ariel, London Heathrow
  • To Heathrow, Revisiting the Cathay Pacific Lounge
  • AY3126 London Heathrow to Helsinki in Business Class
  • Can you transit Helsinki airport in 20 minutes flat?
  • AY107 Helsinki to Tallinn
  • Another walk around Tallinn… and an iPhone 7
  • The Hotel Ülemiste
  • Back to Tallinn Airport, Tallinn Airport Lounge
  • AY118 Tallinn to Helsinki (ATR72-500)
  • A quick visit to the Finnair Non-Schengen Lounges
  • AY831 Helsinki to Heathrow in Business Class with an A350
  • A Train adventure home
  • Silver: Done.

After exiting the hotel, I made my way down the road to the airport. It may be walking distance with a 10 minute or so walk, but feels longer in the cold.

Tallinn Airport
Apparently, I’m not the only nut-job walking in the cold this time of morning.

The walk to the airport is a simple one – turn left from the hotel and keep going until you meet the sign to turn to the airport.

Follow the signs

The Terminal

Almost at the entrance!

Tallinn Airport
Let’s get warm!

Heading into the airport, you pass the car rental desks, and finally, the escalator to take you to departures and arrivals

Tallinn Airport
This way… also note you can stow your clothes too – useful if you want to leave behind your winter coat…

Arriving at the departures level, you can hit the check-in desks if you haven’t got your boarding passes.

Tallinn Airport
Check-in area – note the big advert for Nordica

Or you can make the sharp turn for security. Fast-track security was empty, and I was processed in two minutes flat.

Tallinn Airport
Well, at least there’s a nice sign…

Tallinn Airport
and a button voting thing.

At just 4:30 am in the morning the Duty-Free shop was closed – so I could avoid that rat-run and head to the gate area… or the lounge.

Tallinn Airport

I followed the path round, past the Kiosk and up to the lounge.

Tallinn Airport
Security a bit busier now…

Tallinn Airport Lounge

I entered the lounge – which was in partial darkness. Eventually, a representative checked me in, and I was free to roam the lounge… and catch up with a fellow Tier Point runner.

The lounge itself – its spacious and quiet (but then I’d expect it to be at 4:40 am in the morning!).

Seating

In terms of the unusual, there’s a sleeping pod in the lounge too.

Shhh.

Whilst in the main lounge area, children are catered to, with toys and books.

Tallinn Airport
Kids corner

In terms of catering, there was a good spread on for first thing on a Sunday morning.

Pastries

Tallinn Airport
The might be porridge here… not at this time of morning.

Tallinn Airport
Salads and Sandwiches

Tallinn Airport
Alcoholic selection with juice.

Tallinn Airport
Beverages by the Coca-Cola company. Note, glass bottles used.

The lounge uses the main airport WiFi (which I never tested last time). This time… well.. the bandwidth is very acceptable.

Tallinn Airport
More than acceptable. In fact, downright fast.

Time wound on, and it was time to head to the gate to catch the ATR back to Helsinki.

Tallinn Airport
Passing an advert on the way… I’ll see you in an hour or so.

Our plane was going from Gate 5 again. By the time I got to the gate, the crew were beginning to head down to the plane.

It gave me time to play with the Tallink advert.

Tallinn Airport

On the other side, the ATR was resting before its morning wake-up call to Helsinki.

Tallinn Airport

Meanwhile, at Gate 5, it was still advertising Estonia.

Tallinn Airport

Tallinn Airport
What lies behind those magic doors?……

Tallinn Airport
Ahh.. The entrance to the tarmac!

Boarding was called with no priority boarding. I lined up and got my boarding pass scanned.

With that, it was time to head out to the cold of Tallinn once again and head out to the waiting ATR72-500

Next: AY118 Tallinn to Helsinki
