Boeing 787–10 conducts its first flight

31/03/2017 by Kevincm

It seems today we have a couple of brand-new first flights.

Let’s take a look from the candidate from South Charleston where The Boeing Company conducted the first night the first flight of the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner.

With the first flight of the type this will be the third Boeing 787 Dreamliner subtype. Currently Boeing produce the 787-8 (the original launch plane) and the 787-9 (the first stretch of the plane – extending it by 6.09 metres).

This is the second stretch of the Boeing 787 – extending the fuselage by 11.56metres. The first plane is powered by Rolls Royce Trent 1000 TEN engines.

Boeing  has an extensive order book for the class already with orders from Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, Air Lease Corporation, British Airways and GE Capital Services.

A total of 102 frames are on the order books currently.

The 787-10 will be suiting a lot of airlines with ageing A330, A340 and 777-200 fleets that need renewal, and will compete with the Airbus A350-900 too.

The first flight is always important – validating the concept. Now comes the hard part – proving the concept so it can be sold to customers.

With the Boeing 787-10 – there’s a good start to the project.
