The Intercontinental Magnificent Mile, Chicago

Intercontinental Chicago

After getting out of the Uber, my luggage was taken off me and I headed inside the hotel. I headed to the check in desks, and was welcomed.

Reception.

I was welcomed, and my rate confirmed. As an Intercontinental Ambassador member, my privileges (including the 4pm checkout… what I keep Ambassador for) were verified, and an upgrade to a larger room in the Executive Tower was given.

With that done, my keys were issued, and I headed off to the Executive Tower.

The room is somewhere here….

Finding my room, I opened it to see what I had… and it’s a pretty large room by any standards, with a massive bathroom.

Two beds sir. Check.

The bed themselves are pretty comfortable – I got reasonable sleep in these beds (compared to some of the sleep I would get in this trip!), with the temperature easy to control.

Amenities were all over the place – so there was a hidden coffee machine, as well as plenty to buy in-room

Moving onto the bathroom, there was a large space with both a shower and a bath

And there was more.

After getting myself settled into being in Chicago and allowing stuff to recharge, I headed out for a walk/explore/get some stuff done.

When I came back, a welcome amenity had arrived.                Intercontinental Chicago

The views from the room were nice, looking out to the Wrigley Building and the River

And when it’s throwing it down in Chicago (More on that in another post).

With me busy in Chicago, I was in and out of the hotel – with all interactions friendly with the staff. Taking advantage of the long checkout – I left the hotel around 3pm to travel up to the O’Hare area.

I settled my bill with the hotel – and with that, it was time to switch brands and head to my second home in Chicago – The Hyatt Regency O’Hare.

Overall: A very reasonable product, with a welcome upgrade. Perhaps a little overkill for a crash pad for the night – but there’s nothing like being down-town in a city, rather than being at the airport (and having the commute to go with it going back and forth on the train or in a taxi). If the price is right, I’ll happily stay there again.

Next: Deep Dish Pizza Night.

It might just be the photos, but doesn’t that room seem a bit empty and soulless? Or perhaps I’m expecting a bit too much personality from a room,

The suites do have a bit more character to them. This room wasn’t that soulless (check back soon for the ibis budget). But it had calm. In the heart of a city – that’s always welcome
