La Compagnie signs for two A321neos (and yes… they’re going Transatlantic)

La Compagnie is seemingly on the rise again, this time with an order for two Airbus A321neo aircraft.

The airline (an all-business class operation) has been running for three years – with two leased Boeing 757 aircraft. The airline wishes to phase these aircraft out, and replace them with a pair of Airbus A321neo’s.

The airline intends to offer full-flat beds and onboard Wi-Fi, with the airline suggesting these should allow customers to be well-connected and well-rested upon arrival in New York or Paris.

Laurent Magnin, CEO of La Compagnie is excited about the order, stating

“This year alone, La Compagnie has flown over 40,000 passengers,in which sixty percent were from the US and twenty-five percent frequent fliers. The purchase of two new Airbus A321neos, which are more in line with industry standards than our current fleet of Boeing 757s, is an important step in maintaining our unique position in the market as we continue to invest in our clients and evolve as a brand.”

There is also a sense of what the airline calls “France in Spirit” with the selection of Airbus equipment (breaking away from Boeing equipment), with the Laurent stating

“By selecting Airbus and its A321neo, we are able to illuminate our French touch while reinventing the La Compagnie experience. I am very proud to be the first French airline to employ this particular aircraft.”

The two A321neo’s are due for delivery in 2019.

Currently, La Compagnie operates a singular route – Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Newark, NJ (for New York and New Jersey area), on a twice-daily operation (after retreating from the UK citing economic conditions).

The Trans-Atlantic business class only flights have had various corpses to one side or another (Remember MaxJet and SilverJet?) British Airways
has reduced its A318 London City – JFK to one frequency a day (down from two), and Openskies has moved to a three class cabin.

Maybe a more efficient aircraft -such as the A321neo is the answer to keep niche and boutique carriers like La Compagnie going.
