Hitting the wires right now is very bad news from BA with 1700 jobs for the chop from long and shorthaul crews.

So, yes – to cover the still falling revenues, they’re pulling out the stops to save more money.

They will be looking for 1000 cabin crew taking voluntary redundancy and a further 3,000 choosing to go part-time. In addition, the roles on the plane will change. Any new hires will be on “the new contract” which has different terms will be affected quite hard.

In addition, Strike Action is now becoming a serious threat, with BASSA and UNITE calling emergency meetings and finally getting their finger out.

Expect fireworks.
