The War Against Toner Cartidges…

01/11/2010 by Kevincm

There is a term that states “GIVE ME STRENGTH”… and today the UK Government declared war… on toner cartridges.

Yes, that’s right. Because some terrorist tried to put a bomb in a toner cartridge, the following advisory has been issued

“Suspend the carriage of toner cartridges larger than 500g in passengers’ hand baggage on flights departing from UK airports“

So even though it was a cargo hold, passengers are made to suffer. Again.

Additional responses by the UK Government include:

  • Review all aspects of air freight security and work with international partners
  • Update the guidance given to airport security personnel based on what it has learned so that  similar packages can be identified
  • Extend the suspension of unaccompanied air freight to the UK not just from Yemen but also Somalia.  This wil be reviewed as needed.
  • Prohibit the carriage of toner by air cargo into, via or from the UK unless they originated from a regular shipper with security arrangements approved by the Department for Transport., with the restictions lasting for a month whilst an appropriate response is drafted.

These responses are in effect from Midnight, 02/11/11.

Whilst it’s time to address the weakness that is cargo freight, annoying the passenger again? Oh give me strength… This is pure security theatre.

Plain and simple.
