Thinking of traveling to Spain or through Spanish Airspace tommorow? Think again…

03/12/2010 by Kevincm

A wildcat strike has hit Spain, with air traffic controllers reporting in “sick”.  En mass.

Most of Spain’s airspace remains closed at this time, with the controllers in a dispute with Spanish airport authority Aena over hours and conditions.

The spainish government has warned it will allow the military to take control of airspace if civilian traffic controllers do not return to work.

The move comes after several airports across Spain were shut after traffic controllers began abandoning their posts, claiming sick leave.

Madrid is hit, with Iberia cancelling all arrivals and departures. Whilst the action is expected to last until midnight, Check before you travel if you’re going anywhere near Spain.

This could rumble on.
