OZ: Goes on the attack and orders 6 A380’s

06/01/2011 by Kevincm

It seems Asiana is going on an attack to match Korean Air’s recent 747-8I order, and is going to order 6 Airbus A380’s for it’s fleet.

First delvierys are schedude for 2014, with Airbus saying

“(Asiana) plans to operate the aircraft with a premium layout on key routes to Europe and the US”.

Asiana of course, is impressed saying

“With the A380 Asiana will be able to take its award-winning service to a new level, offering the very highest standards of comfort in the sky,” said Yoon Young-Doo, President and CEO, Asiana Airlines. “At the same time, the significantly reduced operating costs and fuel efficiencies afforded by the aircraft will enable us to enhance our productivity and reduce our carbon footprint. This is in line with our policy to operate one of the most modern and environmentally-friendly fleets in the world.”

Exact configurations and engines have yet to be made, however, this is a toe-to-toe competition now with locally with Korean Air, and I’d go as far to say with JAL and ANA.

This is also in addition to the 30 Airbus A350XWB’s and 2 Boeing 777-200ER’s on order – indicating Asiana is on the attack.

And if Asiana operates the services like they did when I flew with them to Seoul, and back to London, I’d be prepared to be amazed with the product.
