Yesterday, a rare event happened in the airplane industry – the assembly of a “1000th” airliner frame, so step forward Boeing with the venerable 767 aircraft.
The 1000th 767 will be a 767-300ER, which will be for ANA.
Whilst this is a great event, it does once again raise a few question for Boeing, even as frame 1001 is being prepared for assembly eslewhere.
Once again – it revolves around the Boeing 787. Designed as a 767 replacement with more capacity, the aircraft is now much later than planned by a good 2 years.
And considering ANA is the launch customer of the 787, the 767’s were ordered to plug the capacity hole that has opened up because of the delay. So with the 1000th’s 767 coming off the production line, the 787 is still limping through testing, with delivery time scales slipping faster than a person running on ice.
But anyway, there was a presentation at Boeing plant in Everett, and a pretty picture to go with it:

The 1000th 767 is due to be delivered next month to ANA.
