Egypt: Latest updates

01/02/2011 by Kevincm

Time for the daily Egypt update.

First up from the FCO:

We advise against all but essential travel to Cairo (all four governorates, including Giza), Alexandria, Luxor and Suez.  As a result of large demonstrations on 1 February, the nationwide curfew has been extended to 13:00-08:00 local time.  However, this does not extend to Red Sea resorts.  We recommend that British nationals without a pressing need to be in Cairo, Alexandria or Suez leave by commercial means where it is safe to do so.  British nationals in other areas of Egypt where there are demonstrations should follow the advice below and stay indoors wherever possible. As a result of the current unrest, the Rafa border crossing has been closed indefinitely.

British Midland International are running revised services with a stop in Beirut on the way home for a crew change.

The current list is:
BD771 Departing LHR 06:00 local time, Arriving CAI 12:55 local time
BD772 Departing CAI 14:05 local time, Arriving BEY 15:35 local time
BD772 Departing BEY 16:35 local time, Arriving LHR 19:45 local time
BD765 Departing LHR 09:15 local time, Arriving CAI 16:05 local time
BD766 Departing CAI 16:40 local time, Arriving BEY 18:10 local time
BD766 Departing BEY 18:45 local time, Arriving LHR 22:05 local time

British Airways is operating services as previously described.

Rebookings are available on both airlines. For other carriers, please check as you’ll probably be hit by the curfews.

And safe travels to all.
