Those at LATAM who were hoping for a quick merger have had to put the merger on hold as the Chilean anti-trust court has accepted the request of CONADECUS to investigate the impact of the merger in terms of competition.

As such. LAN and TAM and has ordered to “suspend the (merger)process” whilst an investigation is conducted. This puts the 6-9 month merger plan in jeopardy, and will now talk longer.

LAN are aware of the matter, but have refused to comment as has TAM.

Additionally, LATAM have face the hurdles of dealing with competition authorities of Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Italy and Spain as well.

What seemed like a good idea at the time could turn infinity painful.

And this is going to run….
