QF: What’s that skippy? Qantas putting it’s Fuel Surchage (YQ) up?

07/02/2011 by Kevincm

The Spirit of Australia has decided it needs a bit more spirit. Or ideally Jet1-A fuel. Alas, as that’s getting expensive, a fuel surcharge is being applied as price of oil is going up everywhere.

  • For Europe, prepare to be stung with a 53% rise from US$96 to US$147.
  • For the Americas and South Africa, the rise is 35% or so from from US$86 to US$116.
  • For Asia and Pacific Region the rise is 36 percent, from US$55 to US$76.

This applies to tickets issued from February 19th 2011 – so you have few days to get the old prices in.

With the way oil is going, expect more airlines to wake up to the possibilities of YQ and draining your pocket to fuel their planes…..
