For those of us who use BMI’s Diamond Club as our frequent flyer programme, the ongoing dark cloud of “Will it merge into Miles and More or not” has been a big question.
Well after a meeting, the following news is out – and it’s good:
Now that bmi is a part of the Lufthansa group of airlines, we are evaluating being part of Miles & More in the long term. A final decision has not been taken and such a move would not happen in 2011. For the foreseeable future we are firmly focussed on ensuring that our Diamond Club scheme meets the needs of our loyal customers. Therefore we will continue to improve and develop Diamond Club. We will be launching Star Alliance Upgrade Awards in Q2 this year, which will enable Diamond Club members to upgrade on the majority of Star Alliance airlines using their miles, as well as bringing a number of new partners on board.
I don’t care HOW you dress that up – that is EXCELLENT News in my opinion – least of all the mid-term confusion is gone if you’re beginning or in the middle of your qualification runs.
Longer term into 2012 – who knows – but for now the advice I can give is
- Continue to Earn with BMI if you’re a member
- Retain Gold or Silver if you’re Gold/Silver and don’t let the memberships lapse.
- Earning Gold or Silver could put you in a good position for next year should a merger go ahead into Miles and More.
A win win all around – and with Star Alliance Upgrade Scheme around the corner, this could prove a good time.
And BMI – it’s not often I say this – but well done and a great decision to support the customers.
