NYC: Positioning in – Which is more stupidly priced… KL or WW?

10/02/2011 by Kevincm

I’ll be getting onto the meat of the run tommorow, but today, I’m going to discuss how to postion in. And the stupidity of some airlines.

To commence this run, I need to haul-ass to Amsterdam. From Birmingham, that boils down to two options – KLM or BMI Baby.

Now, I’m a minited AirFrance/KLM Gold. And for fun I popped in a query into their fare engine for a single flight from Birmingham to Amsterdam costs.

Have guess how much that would had set me back? Go on. Have a good thought.

Finished yet?

If you said £50, I’d laugh at you.
If you said £100, I’d laugh even harder.
If you said £200, I’d ask what do you think KLM was smoking.

In fact the correct price is …. £340!

Now, lets compare that with BMI Baby’s fare of £45 orignally – which dropped to £33.

Even after adding luggage and lounge access (and for this sort of trip – not required) this pushes the ticket to £70.

£340 vs £70.

For the tighter seat picture for an hour’s flight (and most of it will be taxing – lets face it – it’s Amsterdam. The chances of ending up on the Polderbaan will just double the flight length), even by my standards, this is a no-brainer……..
