LH: Project A380 – Full speed ahead

01/03/2011 by Kevincm

Lufthansa has completed it’s first run from Frankfurt to New York JFK International, and has announced it’s expecting it’s A380 delivery scheduled to be unaffected after the Qantas QF32 Incident.

The Lufthansa A380 fleet will be up to 8 members by the summer of 2011.

The JFK service is a prelude to the second A380 service operated by Lufthansa – to San Francisco.

In addition, there is consideration being given to Chicago, Miami and Washington Dulles as possible A380 routes to the USA.

Nico Buchholz, executive vice president, Lufthansa Group Fleet Management also indicates that the load factors on the A380 current services are over 90%. Of course he didn’t indicate if those were bargain bucket seats or high price fares (which would lead to a higher yield)

Still, the A380 is beginning to spread it’s wings again, and recovering from last years incident.

And about time too.
